Samantha Bowen and her boyfriend, John Johnson, are hoping someone recognizes the man seen in their home surveillance footage stealing items from their porch in broad daylight. They say he stole power tools worth hundreds of dollars.
“Smile! You’re on camera buddy!” said Bowen. “Red-handed!”
You can see the man caught on their home surveillance footage drive into their yard and walk up to their house before making a getaway with the tools in tow.
“He walked into our yard like he just lives here,” said Bowen.
The couple was returning from a trip to a local home improvement store, having purchased supplies for new cabinets.
They say Johnson went to look for his saws but wasn't able to locate them.
They tell Action News Jax they searched through hours of surveillance footage to see if they could spot what happened to their tools, at which point they discovered the man seen in the footage.
“Just can’t believe this guy drove up in the middle of the day,” said Johnson. “In our yard!”
The footage also appears to show what could be other equipment in the trunk of the man’s car.
“My fear is, how many other people is he doing this to?” said Bowen.
Action News Jax searched the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's crime map for thefts, burglaries or robberies within – mile radius of their home in the last six months.
The search revealed 204 reported incidents in the designated time span.
They’re hoping someone knows the man who appears in the footage. They’re hoping it can help prevent another crime in their neighborhood.
“I hope his employers see him,” said Bowen. “If this isn’t his job, thieving from others! So we can put an end.”
Bowen tells me she’s notified police and will be filing a report tomorrow.
