It’s been a downbeat start to the week for Asian investors.

Stock markets across the region lost ground, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index closing down 1.6%, or 344.67 points, at 21,898.99.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng sank 2.1%, or 551.96 points, to end at 25,934.39 and South Korea’s Kospi index gave up 0.9%, or 19.08 points, to finish at 2,076.92.

Australia’s ASX/200 pulled back 0.5%, or 31.10 points, to close at 5,818.10.
